Constructed between 1947 and 1951 the dam not only provides an opportunity to see a fully operational hydro power station, but a chance to observe salmon at close quarters.

Salmon travelling up the river to spawn can be seen in three viewing chambers in a salmon ladder. Interactive, audio-visual presentations of this king of British fish are also provided at the visitor centre.
